Provider Enrollment What is credentialing? Every health insurance payer, including Medicare and Medicaid, requires certain documentation from physicians before they will grant 'participating' status and remit payments for that providers services. This process is called 'credentialing'. Physicians (and some non-physician providers) are required to become credentialed at the outset of their relationship with the payer, and then to recredential periodically. :: Back To Top :: How long does credentialing usually take? Even under the best circumstances the credentialing process can be very long. The time frame varies depending on the payer, but typically would be approximately 1-4 months. :: Back To Top :: Why should I outsource credentialing? Many providers find the credentialing process overwhelmingly burdensome and time consuming. Coupled with this, however, is the absolute necessity of proper credentialing to the business health of the practice. Without proper credentialing, payment can be delayed or refused by payers, even if the physician is otherwise ready and able to provide services. Many practices feel it makes sense to outsource this burdensome task to professionals who focus on credentialing and can provide the service as quickly and efficiently as possible. For more information on our credentialing services, please see our credentialing page. :: Back To Top :: Do I have to purchase other services to take advantage of credentialing? No. We have a number of clients who contract with us solely for credentialing services. :: Back To Top :: As a client, who do I call at Reimbursement X-Perts if I have questions about the credentialing process? When you become a credentialing client you will meet our credentialing professionals and your new contact person, who will be happy to answer your questions during the credentialing process. :: Back To Top :: |
